Sin Pelo Kennels is proud to be involved with a cooperative in Argentina that my sister has spent a great deal of time working with. Mimi is her inspiration. Here is some info on the cooperative:
Asociación Apoyo Familiar Casa del Niño Arco Iris is a neighborhood center working to provide for the educational and nutritional needs of local children and families, with a focus on community capacity building. Located in a neighborhood between the city of Buenos Aires and La Plata (the capital city of the Province of Buenos Aires), this center is dedicated to child care and aid to families, in a zone where parents are often unable to provide for the educational and nutritional needs of their children, nor be available to care for them during the day. This center, therefore, was established fifteen years ago as part of an international system of child care centers, and since that time has provided for the daily meals and extracurricular education of the neighborhood’s children. A great deal of community involvement has been stimulated through support programs that reach out to local families.
The cooperative is a collaboration of six women who have taken on the challenge of bettering their children’s lives through this economic endeavor. Through sales of these products, the women will be investing in their own lives and their children’s future. The cooperative also puts funds aside from all sales to support continuing education to deepen their understanding of the economics and responsibilities involved in running a business. The information gathered through their cooperative will also further efforts of other women in the developing world, in offering their achievements as an example of how others can create a better future now!
