Allergy Info
I came across the AHT breed when I started looking for a dog that I could have with my allergies to animals. My symptoms from being around dogs and cats are itchy eyes, watery nose, wheezing, difficulty breathing and itching around my neck. I did allergy tests with a number of dogs that were considered hypoallergenic including Yorkies, Havanese and Poodles.. None of these were successful. I got my first AHT from a breeder in Michigan and I was really excited to finally have a pet that I could snuggle and love that wouldn't irritate my allergies. I did experience some irritation if I touched my eyes after holding my dog for a long time but that, as well, has subsided and they now kiss me all over my face with no problem. I simply washed my hands before touching my face to avoid the minor symptoms.
Allergy tests are highly recommended for families with allergies as no animal is completely hypoallergenic. It is sad for the family and the dog when a pet has to be returned due to allergies. We ask that all families with allergies do an allergy test that we will help arrange before purchasing an AHT.
